BuildWise ("we," "us," or "our") operates the BuildWise home renovation platform accessible at buildwiseapp.com and related subdomains. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our services.

By creating an account or using BuildWise, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, phone number, home address, city, state, ZIP code, and county.

Project Information: Details about your renovation project including project type, budget range, start date, and project description.

Payment Information: We use Stripe to process payments. We do not store your credit card number, CVV, or full card details. Stripe processes and stores payment data per their own Privacy Policy.

Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, time spent in the app, and general interaction patterns (used to improve the product).

Communications: If you contact us via email or the app, we retain those communications.

Device & Technical Data: Browser type, IP address, and device type collected automatically when you use our service.

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your BuildWise account
To personalize your project dashboard with relevant estimates, permit information, and contractor matches for your location
To process subscription payments and manage billing via Stripe
To connect you with contractors in your area who are relevant to your project type
To send you project-related emails (permit reminders, step notifications, budget alerts)
To improve BuildWise features and user experience
To comply with legal obligations
To send promotional emails about BuildWise (you may unsubscribe at any time)

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited circumstances:

Contractors: When you request a bid, we share your project type, general location, and project details with matched contractors. Your personal contact information (email, phone) is shared only after you accept a bid.
Service Providers: We share data with trusted vendors who help us operate BuildWise — including Stripe (payments), Supabase (database), Brevo (email), Google (maps and contractor search), and Cloudflare (hosting).
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of BuildWise and our users.
Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

4. Amazon Affiliate Links

BuildWise participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click a product link in the Materials section and make a purchase, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Amazon collects data per their own Privacy Policy.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you cancel your subscription, your data is retained for 90 days, after which you may request deletion. Project data you've created remains accessible to you during this period.

6. Your Rights

Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction: You may update your account information at any time in Settings.
Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing privacy@buildwiseapp.com.
Opt-out: You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
Data Portability: You may export your project schedule and budget data as CSV from within the app at any time.

7. Cookies

BuildWise uses browser localStorage (not third-party tracking cookies) to save your session, project preferences, and conversation history with Owl. We do not run third-party advertising trackers on our platform.

8. Children's Privacy

BuildWise is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, database-level row security, and limited staff access to production data. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure. Use BuildWise at your own risk and contact us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice in the app. Continued use of BuildWise after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
